.50 caliber , 30" octagon barrel features double silver bands at breech and has an excellent bore. This rifle features a back action lock and is marked on top flat of barrel "B & S / NEW YORK". This rifle is very finely decorated with beautifully engraved German silver furniture. The lock, hammer, bolster and tang all bear nicely cut loose floral scroll. The large round patchbox is engraved "Lukas Leopold" surrounded in lovely New York scroll and fancy borders. The cheekpiece is adorned with an engraved German silver recumbent deer, the buttplate tang and toeplate are engraved in very nice scroll along with the triggerguard with pineapple finial. The wedge escutcheons are oval, the tailpipe is of German silver and the forend tip is of pewter. The condition is nice with the barrel retaining an even and generally smooth brown patina with some original blue showing. The lock is a very nice, smooth brown patina. The stock rates about excellent with 80% plus original finish remaining. All German silver appointments bear a pleasing patina and the rifle comes with what appears to be its original German silver tipped ramrod. A cursory check for Lukas Leopold revealed a Lukas Leopold Saloon on E. Houston Street in New York during the 1860s. The left side of the butt is neatly stamped in small letters "S. FISCHER" which we presume was a subsequent owner. An interesting and completely honest percussion halfstock rifle. (14591-64) {ANTIQUE} (1500/2500) SOLD FOR $2185.00
