.58 Cal percussion, 40" barrel with a bright excellent bore. Barrel is a dull gray patina with some extremely sparse oxidation frosting and is dated 1863 and exhibits proper proofs; bands show original pale fire-temper blue. Lock and hammer show fading mottled color case-hardening and have a protective coat of lacquer, lockplate is dated 1863. Stock rates very good plus showing some later added linseed oil and perhaps a very light cleaning, but still exhibits sharp edges, two light cartouches and a rack number "74" on the left stock flat; there is a tiny chip at rear of tang. A very fine example overall of the Type I 1863 rifle-Musket. (3393-10) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2070.00
