serial #2474, 22 S,L,LR, 24” octagon barrel with an excellent bore. Barrel and magazine tube retain about 98% original blue, also with very sparsely scattered very light oxidation staining. The receiver shows 98% to near 99% original vivid case colors, also with some very light, very minor oxidation staining. The lever has toned to mostly a pewter and brown patina with generous traces of case color at its root. Trigger, hammer and bolt all show good original blue, also with minor present oxidation. The smooth pistolgrip buttstock and forearm rate excellent with minor dings and handling marks from light use, there is an area or two which show fabric-like impressions, likely from some gun case or rag soaked in solvent. The gun wears its original grooved hard rubber buttplate, normally seen on later model 39 rifles; the buttstock is however numbered to the gun in the tang recess, and is factory original. Front sight is a Marlin 1R while the rear sight seat is fitted with a dovetail blank; there is a nice Lyman number 2A combination tang sight in place on tang with its original aperture. The bolt is a factory, post 1932 high-speed replacement (early bolts would crack when used with high speed ammunition); the magazine tube is late-production style with removable inner brass tube. A really lovely early model 39 overall. (3357-6) {C&R} (2000/3000) SOLD FOR $1438.00
