40. Alexander Henry Falling Block Sporting Rifle

serial #4522, 450/400 2 3/8" BPE, 26" round barrel with an excellent bore. This is a wonderful lightweight British sporting rifle. The compact action features fine English scroll engraving in about 80% coverage. The lock is engraved in near full coverage with "Alexr Henry" within banner on center and is a smooth gray patina with strong color in forward area where surfaces are protected by the hammer. The top of barrel is engraved "Alexr Henry Edinburgh and London" and is also marked with Henry's Medicus stamp. This rifle is completely honest and in quite nice condition. The lock features an external sliding safety and the push-button lever has a pivoting lever which locks the action in the closed position. The barrel retains about 75% evenly thinning original blue finish which is blending with a smooth brown patina. The action retains a smooth gray patina on its sides with vivid original color case hardened finish on protected portions of belly. The top tang and triggerplate also bear lots of original color case hardened finish. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and forend are of beautifully figured English walnut and rate excellent with most of their original oil finish remaining. The stock features a nice thin shadowline cheekrest and has good strong checkering. The forend shows a few light dings in checkering. The rifle handles beautifully at 5 1/2 lbs. and has a 13 1/2" length of pull over its original checkered butt. A superb British single shot sporting rifle by one of the world's most respected makers.
