serial #2804, .50-70 CF (one of 1600 Armory conversions to centerfire), 35 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. Metal surfaces show a bright pewter patina on barrel and bands while the breech block, lockplate and hammer show excellent restored color case-hardening, the lock is dated 1864. The stock rates very good plus showing a light cleaning and a lightly added coat of linseed oil, showing a very light, illegible left side cartouche but also its original very minor dings and handling marks and crisp edges. Nearly all of these converted rifles were sold to France and shipped for use in the Franco-Prussian war, surviving full military specimens such as this are very scarce. (3393-5) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2070.00
