serial #160, 44 cf, 23 1/2" octagon barrel with full magazine and a dark bore that shows deep rifling. This rifle features large loose relief floral scroll engraving on action with fine punch dot shaded background. The top of the frame shows a more geometric pattern and the top tang shows lovely unshaded scroll. The top of the buttplate shows a more folky floral scroll. The condition of the rifle is quite nice with its barrel and magazine retaining a pleasing even brown patina with some scattered light surface marks present. The action retains about 75% original nickel plated finish which has faded to a pleasing pewter color with a rich mustard colored patina present on areas of exposed brass. The stock is of beautiful burl maple with lots of figure and lovely color. The stock has a graceful, thin cheekpiece and is coarsely checkered at wrist. The stock retains a good deal of original finish, shows some added finish and has an old repaired crack at wrist which now seems stable. Silver blade front sight and ladder rear are both present. This rifle comes in a period leather trunk style case with brass hinge type lock. The interior of the case is lined in a purple felt and shows wear marks at hammer and front sight. This is a rare and lovely engraved Adirondack rifle. (3410-2) {ANTIQUE} (7000/9000) SOLD FOR $8050.00
