serial #3607, .30 Caliber Cup-Primed, 3 1/2" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few minor spots of light pitting within the grooves. This is a lovely revolver which has good quality New York style floral scroll engraving on the frame, cylinder, and barrel and retains 90% of the original silver plate finish which has worn lightly along the hard edges revealing the underlying brass which has tarnished to a warm ocher-yellow color. The barrel and cylinder retain about 60% of the original blue finish which has faded to lightly pitted plum-brown on the left side of the barrel as well as along one half of the outside surface of the cylinder, probably from lying on an upholstered surface for a prolonged period of time. The smooth rosewood grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and are in excellent shape with only very minor traces of wear around the butt on both panels. The revolver is housed in an original hinged lid green cardboard box which has a practically intact, slightly soiled yellow paper label that depicts the right plan view of the revolver flanked by the words: "SIX/SHOOTER/No1.", "THE BEST/METALLIC/ CARTRIDGE REVOLVER", "MANUFACTURED BY THE/(American eagle)/EAGLE ARMS CO./NEW YORK". The box is in very good condition with some minor wear along the corners and a partially detached front edge of the lid. Also included are a partial box of original "P" headstamped cup-primed cartridges (22 total) which is missing the lid and what appears to be a correct, original steel cleaning rod. This is a fine example of an engraved Plant's revolver which has a rare original box and cartridges and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of early American cartridge revolvers.
