18. Ithaca Grade 5E Single Barrel Trap Knickerbocker Model Shotgun
serial #405403, 12ga., 32" ventilated rib barrel choked full with an excellent bore. Barrel retains about 98% original blue, the loss due chiefly to honest even fading. The wide ventilated rib is equipped with an ivory mid-rib bead and orange Ithaca Rabar front sight. The grade 5 engraved receiver retains about 97% original case colors with the dual gold bird inlays. The quality of the engraving is actually quite good and is signed by Ithaca engraver Ralph Alpen. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock rates excellent and features fancy grade 5 fleur-de-lis checkered panels. There is a silver grip cap which is engraved "Ross Kelly". The checkered semi beavertail forend rates excellent as well. Length of pull to the solid 1" Pachmayr recoil pad is 14". A cursory search of trapshooting records reveals a Ross Kelly who was active with the Pennsylvania State Sportsman's Association and the Pennsylvania State Shoot held at Elysburg, PA., he passed away in the early 80s.
