serial #178939(A), 32 W.C.F., 24" round barrel with a very good bore showing a few specks of light pitting. The metal surfaces on this 1885 manufactured rifle bear a brownish gray patina with scattered spots of cleaned light to moderate pitting and 15-20% original blue finish in protected areas. The hammer retains 65-70% slightly mellowed original case-color. The brass cartridge lifter bears a brown stain and signs of a light cleaning. The straight grip walnut buttstock rates near excellent with a few light dings, handling marks, and about 90% original varnish finish remaining. The walnut forend rates about very good with more light dings, handling marks, and only about 35% original varnish finish remaining. This rifle is equipped with a Lyman No. 5A combination front sight, sporting rear sight, and a Lyman No. 2 folding tang peep sight. A nice honest Third model 1873 rifle.
