serial #98842, 45 ACP, 5 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, barrel, and extractor with the metal retaining 98% plus of the original blue finish that has silvered slightly at the muzzle as well as developed a faint turn ring around the cylinder. The hammer and trigger have 90% of the original color case-hardening remaining with some fading on the sides of the trigger. The smooth walnut grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and have only a few very minor handling marks and dings in the otherwise excellent original oil finish. The revolver is accompanied by a December 21, 2002 dated Smith & Wesson factory letter which lists a ship date of August 22, 1918 to Springfield Armory. This is a fantastic collector grade 1917 S&W in excellent overall condition. (3421-5) {C&R} (1000/1500)
