serial #1238, 32-40, 28" part octagon part round barrel with a very good plus bore showing good rifling but minor frosting in the grooves. This nice number 52 Schuetzen Jr. model is on a 44 1/2 frame. The barrel retains a mottled gray-blue patina with some fading to brown, it is 1" across the flats and very nearly the same diameter at the muzzle. The factory engraved frame features the familiar swirling scroll motif with floral embellishments around all the screw holes. The frame retains perhaps 92% original case colors, more vivid toward the rear of the action, the balance showing muted colors and mottled gray case-hardening. The lever shows generous traces of original case-hardened colors but is more a mottled gray case-hardened patina with some very minor pitting at the end of the lever bow. Screws, factory double set triggers, hammer and breechblock retain very good original blue, the buttplate is mostly a brown patina with remnants of the original color case-hardening peeking through. The finely checkered Schuetzen style walnut buttstock rates about excellent showing an old well-done repair to the right side of the pistolgrip; it appears as though the stock had once cracked at this point, fortunately through the checkering, which now masks most of the repair. The forend rates near excellent as well with only minor handling marks and some dings at the Schnable. Barrel, forend, butt and buttplate are all numbered to the gun (238). Front sight is Stevens's number 210 interchangeable insert style globe while rear is Stevens windgauge Vernier style, its aperture is missing. A lovely rifle over all, the checkering is somewhat dirty and should be cleaned, the right side checkering panel should be professionally chased as the checkering done after the repair is amateurish.
