serial #20541, 32 W.C.F., 24" octagon barrel with a near excellent bore showing a few specks of light pitting. This early manufactured takedown rifle is in very fine condition overall. The serial number falls within the range of numbers for the first year of manufacture. The barrel retains 99% original blue finish and the full length magazine tube retains 95% original blue finish with the majority of the loss due to removal of the tube. The receiver retains about 70% thinning original blue finish with the loss due to flaking. The balance bears a pleasing brown patina that blends very well with the blue finish. The hammer retains nearly all of its strong original case-color while the lever is mostly a dark smooth gray patina with strong original case-color in protected areas. The crescent buttplate bears a pleasing grayish light brown patina with somewhat mellowed original case-color blending through. The loading gate retains nearly all of its original fire blue finish. The straight grip select walnut buttstock and forend rates excellent with light handling marks and a thin coat of linseed oil added. The rear sight is a quality Marble's replacement. A Lyman No. 1A folding tang peep sight has been added. The tang sight mounting screw heads show slot wear. Included with this rifle is a factory letter indicating: rifle, takedown, 32 caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, received into the warehouse on February 27, 1894 and shipped on March 17, 1894.
