.75 caliber flint, 14 1/4" part octagon, part round barrel, with a turned ring at the point of transition and a cannon belled muzzle with an excellent bore. The barrel exhibits British proofs on its left side flat and has a lightly engraved ring at the breech with a heart-shaped motife. The gun is equipped with a top snap bayonet with a robust spring and sturdy catch. The stepped lockplate is maker marked "Tomlinson & Co." and shows light borderline engraving and some minor geometric engraving at the step. The gooseneck cock also features very light engraving as does the forward face of the frizzen, the frizzen spring is roller equipped. Ramrod thimbles and acorn-finial trigger guard are lightly engraved as is the top tang of the brass buttplate. All brass is a lovely mustard-colored patina, the steel is a pleasing pewter patina with some very minor oxidation staining. The English walnut stock rates about excellent showing only minor handling marks and a couple minor cracks, most notably at the forward barrel wedge and at breech area. The grip features coarse checkering. The toe has a 1" chip missing but would be an easy repair for a talented wood man. There appears to be an original ramrod present, it is somewhat short. This is a lovely antique blunderbuss from a respected British maker. (2601-1) {ANTIQUE} (2500/3500) SOLD FOR $3737.50
