Harrington & Richardson Custer Memorial Issue Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine

serial #LBH 25, 45-70, 22" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a highly embellished carbine which has profuse hand engraved floral scrollwork on the blued lockplate, silver plated hammer and receiver, breech of barrel, and buttplate. A single inlaid gold band is present at the muzzle, three more at the breech, as well as four inlaid silver panels which read "Serg't. Miles F. O'Harra/M co. 7th. U.S. Cavalry/Born-Alton, Ohio 1851/Enlisted Oct. 30, 1872". A further engraved panel is present on the silver plated triggerguard tang which reads "Killed-June 25, 1876 Action with Indians on Little Bighorn River, MT." the highly figured walnut stock has all of its original glossy varnish and the carbine is housed in its original wooden display case with gold colored, velvet upholstered lining. H&R manufactured a total of 268 of these carbines, one for each member of Custer's command who died at Little Bighorn. The quality of the craftsmanship is excellent and this example is in virtually new condition. (2164-16) {C&R} (2000/2500) SOLD FOR $1610.00
