serial #1016, 505 Gibbs, 25 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This impressive rifle features an integral, tank style muzzle brake with sporting style front sight, two leaf rear sight and EAW swing mount quick release scope bases. The barrel has 97% original blue remaining with some fading around the muzzle brake; the receiver exhibits a lustrous plum-brown finish; and the blued bolt shows silvering along the bearing surfaces and some gray metal on the bolt knob. The pistol grip Circassian walnut stock exhibits classic British lines with bold checkering on the pistol grip and forend, a black horn forend cap, and lovely feathered grain on the buttstock. Originally, the stock was outfitted with a left-handed cheekpiece which has since been removed (only a slightly lighter finish on the right side of the buttstock betrays evidence of any work). The rifle weighs a respectable 10 1/2 pounds with a 14 5/8" length of pull to an Old English pad. An unusual and attractive braided leather sling completes the package. A previous sale description of the rifle is included which states that the barrel was made by Buhmiller and assembled into a finished rifle by Richard Treibel in either 1973 or 74. Also included are two boxes of factory ammunition: the first is an open full box of Gibbs manufactured, 525 grain solids (10 rds.); the second, a still sealed box of Kynoch manufactured, 525 grain solids with a Johannesburg retailer's sticker (10 rds.); lastly, a three die .505 Gibbs set by RCBS. This is a fabulous rifle, well-made and capable of downing any animal on the face of the earth. (2182-1) (5000/7000) SOLD FOR $5175.00
