serial #208096, 16 ga. over 8 x 57 JR, 26 3/4" Krupp steel barrels with bright excellent bores and with constrictions of .012" and .015". This scarce drilling utilizes Sauer's patented side cocking mechanism. This shotgun has a lovely round bellied action and features nice tasteful tight scroll engraving in about 40% coverage with nice geometric borders. The action features sideclips and cocking indicators and has a neat thumb operated side lever, which cocks and activates the rifle barrel. Drilling is in very nice condition with its barrels retaining 85% evenly thinning original blue finish. The action and locks retain 90% plus original color casehardened finish with belly turned to a silver color and locks showing beautiful subtle colors. Top lever and side lever retain about 95% original blue finish and the triggerguard retains about 85% original blue finish. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and forend are of nicely figured walnut and feature a nice flat shadowline cheek piece and steel four cartridge trap in bottom of butt. The stocks rate excellent with over 90% original oil finish and have very good checkering. Buttstock features an engraved steel pistol grip cap and grooved horn buttplate. Front sight is a low-profile beaded blade and rear barrel sight manually flips up and is graduated for 80 meters. The Double Gun Journal published in their autumn 2003 edition, an article written by Jeff Stephens, which includes a detailed study of Sauer's sidecocker drillings. A copy of this article is included with the drilling. A fine, rare and desirable Sauer drilling. (2194-4) {C&R} (6000/8000)
