serial #76 this is an absolutely superb example of the Ames founded model 1841 24 pound mortar. The bronze tube has a lovely umber-ochre patina. The face of the muzzle is marked: "No 76" and dated "1863" and has the Ames Manufacturing Co. "A.M. Co." and is weight marked "162" with U.S. inspector marking "A.B.D.". The tube itself is about 16 " long with an 8 5/8" O.D. muzzle band. The mortar sits in a reproduction block which utilizes all the original hardware. The block itself measures 15" wide by 31" long by 8 3/4" tall. These bronze mortars are very very scarce and very desirable, to have one founded by Ames with markings this remarkably clear is a very rare occurrence. As with all artillery special shipping arrangements must be made. (2109-2) (30,000/50,000) SOLD FOR $51750.00
