serial #95344, 38-55, 30" No. 4 weight octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel on this rifle is the original barrel which was rebored to 38-55 from 32-40. Special order features include heavier than standard barrel with no rear seat, Schuetzen set triggers, large Swiss buttplate and midrange vernier rear and windgauge front sights. The barrel retains about 95% evenly thinning original blue finish with "38-55" nicely engraved on top left flat just ahead of action. The barrel has been fitted with scope blocks, the rear of which covers the original caliber designation. The action retains 98% restored blue finish. The lever with period added finger spur retains a good deal of faded original case color. The plain walnut stocks rate very good plus with about 75% original finish remaining. The large Swiss buttplate is original and retains about 40% original nickel plated finish, the forend has a Winchester palm rest base which is proper and fits nicely but is not mentioned in the factory ledgers. Rifle is equipped with midrange vernier tang peep sight and windgauge front with spirit level. Factory records list rifle as 32-40, octagon 30", No. 4, Schuetzen set, no rear seat, large Swiss plate, midrange vernier & windgauge sights and showing shipment on June 29, 1904. Each side of forend just ahead of action, as well as top spur of buttplate on left side, is stamped with a small "H.T.", likely the initials of the original owner.
