serial #228, about 16 bore, 30" damascus barrels. The barrels of the shotgun are old Belgian made replacements which are of excellent quality and utilize the original breech piece. This is a high-grade, lovely shotgun. All iron surfaces of shotgun feature lovely relief floral engraving. Each lock is engraved "Alexr Henry". The barrels retain 95% nice quality brown finish and show strong damascus pattern their entire length. All other iron surfaces bear an even gray patina and remain generally smooth with just a little pitting on forward portion of triggerguard tang. The checkered straight grip stock is of beautifully figured English walnut and rates excellent as refinished. Top of wrist bears a gold shield shaped escutcheon which is unadorned. The casing and accessories are perhaps more impressive than the shotgun. The interior of the oak case is lined in leather which is embossed in a fine checkerboard pattern. The case has numerous compartments for loading and cleaning implements many of which lift out to expose additional compartments beneath. Accessories include a very fine "extra quality" Sykes patent leather covered powder flask, excellent quality leather shot bag, three turned wooden containers with twist tops, pure oiler, Bartram & Co. capper, three ebony handled tools, three Sykes patent iron charge holders and a wonderful removable oak box which houses some additional small accessories including the keyhole escutcheon and key along with some hinge accessories. The interior of the lid bears Alexander Henry maker's label which shows some foxing but rates very good plus being very near fully intact. An absolute top-quality outfit, we wish it had more condition. (2027-75) {ANTIQUE} [Stan Terhune Collection] (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $4025.00
