serial #23575, 280 Ross, 24" barrel with a bright near excellent bore, showing perhaps some very light frosting in the grooves halfway down the bore. Metal surfaces retain about 97% nice quality original rust blue. This lovely rifle features fine foliate and scroll engraving on front and rear receiver rings, breech area of barrel and entire bottom metal. The gun is stocked in a very nice grade of English walnut, classic style, and features checkered panels on the grip with a wraparound pattern on the forend. The gun has a horn forend tip and grip cap, with a checkered trapdoor steel buttplate. Front sight is a hooded sporting style ramp with single bead, rear features a single standing and three folding leafs, the third being a vernier style long-range sight. The right side of the receiver ring features a takedown screw which, when backed out allows the barrel to be screwed off the front of the action. This is an absolutely lovely takedown rifle which would be suitable for all North American game. Initial chamber and bolt measurements point to this gun being chambered in 280 Ross, rather than the 280 Jeffrey which is a shorter cartridge with a smaller base diameter. Obviously a competent gunsmith should make final caliber determination and check headspace. (1991-3) {C&R} (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $6900.00
