serial #10065, 45-60, 30" octagon barrel with full magazine and a very good plus bore. Special order features on this rifle include fancy checkered pistol grip stocks, steel shotgun buttplate and special longer than standard barrel. While not a high condition rifle, this is a completely honest and unabused rifle. The barrel and magazine retain about 15% original blue finish blended with a smooth brown patina and with just a little scattered light surface oxidation. The action is mostly a brown patina but shows generous traces to perhaps 10% original case color in protected areas. The checkered pistol grip walnut buttstock and forend are wonderfully figured and rate very good plus. Lower left tang of rifle is marked "XXX 991", stock is marked within top tang inlet "991". Rifle is equipped with standard open sporting sights and original steel smooth shotgun buttplate. Factory records indicate the gun was received on September 24, 1880, rifle, 45-60, octagon 30", plain trigger, plain stock checkered, case hardened, shotgun butt and showing shipment the same day. The "plain" quotation on the stock is obviously an error as this is undoubtedly the original stock for this rifle and the tang marking indicates fancy wood. A completely honest and handsome deluxe '76 that should be affordable; in high condition it would bring in the mid to high five figures.
