Nice Early Winchester Model 1898 Breechloading Cannon

10 gauge black powder blanks only, 12" barrel with a good bore having a few scattered spots of light pitting. This early model was manufactured between 1907-1911 with an outside barrel diameter of 1 1/4". It is also equipped with earlier side plate which reads "Registered in USA", along with the small steel wheel present on original firing hammer. The Winchester lettering and patent date appears on top of barrel along with crisp "-NOT FOR BALL -" forward of barrel band. The cannon measures 16 1/2" in length, 7 1/4" tall and 6 1/2" in width. The barrel retains about 80% blue finish fading to a smooth brown patina with a few scattered specks of light pitting and surface oxidation. The cast iron carriage retains 95% japaned finish with a few light chips and scuffs present. A really nice looking early model Winchester cannon in very good plus condition overall.
