Third Reich Fire Protection Police Leather Dress Helmet

Click on images for enlarged versions.

This helmet is of the same basic construction as an imperial era pickelhaube but is fitted with the metal comb of the Feurwehr. The patent leather has some light surface wear around the crown while the metal trimmed front peak has light crackling. The front of the helmet is emblazoned with a gilt, oak wreath bordered coat of arms for the state of Hesse (with swastika) and large, white metal sunburst. The size 56 leather suspension web has only light scuffing around the edges and the original, removeable leather neck shield is included. The adjustable chinstrap has heavy flaking but is still intact. This helmet was captured by Mr. Amerigo Bergamo, then a soldier in the 101st Inf. Regt., 26th Inf. Div., U.S. Army. A copy of a notarized letter is included with the helmet which states that the helmet was captured while Mr. Bergamo was in theater between November 1, 1944 - May 1, 1945 (most probably this helmet was captured some time in April of 1945). This is a fine and complete example of a seldom seen German helmet. (1985-4) (500/700) SOLD FOR $632.50
