serial #40, .44 2 6/10, 34" part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rare and early Hepburn rifle is in very fine condition. The barrel retains 80% evenly thinning original blue finish. The action retains over 90% original color casehardened finish which has softened over time but remains clearly visible. Fire blue on hammer, trigger and sight base remains strong. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and horn tipped forend are of nicely figured walnut and rate excellent with some old added light finish present. Rifle is equipped with a windgauge front sight with spirit level, no rear seat and long-range vernier tang peep sight. The buttstock is fitted with its original heel position sight base and checkered hard rubber buttplate. The barrel shows light marks at two edges of the octagon barrel near breech, these are very minor but worth mention. A very nice all matching example of the scarce and desirable long-range Hepburn rifle. (1915-45) {ANTIQUE} [Ray Day Collection] (8000/10,000)
