Civil War Identity Disk Belonging to a New Hampshire Soldier Killed at Gettysburg

This is a coin sized, War of 1861 silver disk which has a bust view of George Washington on the obverse and "JOSEPH TRICKEY/CO. D/5TH REG./N.H.V./ROCHESTER" on the reverse. The silver has developed a dark tarnish over the years but the image, stamping and edges are still crisp with good definition. Joseph Trickey was 41 when he enlisted on September 16, 1861, mustering into Co. D, 5th N.H. Infantry on October 23. Trickey was promoted to Corporal and is listed as having been wounded at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863, and was finally killed in action two months later on the second day at Gettysburg. Interestingly, there was another, Canadian born, Joseph Trickey in the 5th N.H. who enlisted at the same time and was killed at Alexandria, VA in 1864, but he enlisted at Enfield and did not reside in Rochester. This is an excellent piece of Civil War history and would make a fine addition to any collection. (2017-13) (1000/2000)
