This box is stamped "WATERTOWN / ARSENAL / 1863" on the flap of the inner cover and has extensive crazing along the exterior cover which has remained supple and intact. The closure tab is broken. The leather on protected areas is in fine shape without any wear or crazing and the tin insert is excellent. The flap has an undented, die struck "NHSM" (New Hampshire State Militia) cover plate which has a lightly cleaned, yellow ocher patina. There is no shoulder belt but the japanned buckles are in fine condition without any rust. This is a fine cartridge box overall which has survived the years very well. (1958-120) (700/900)
