serial #70288, 22 Short, 28" No. 2 weight octagon barrel with a pitted bore. The barrel is mostly a brownish gray patina with some scattered specks of rust and light pitting and perhaps 15% thinning original blue finish remaining. The receiver shows a dark grayish color with some specks of oxidation and perhaps 30% mellowed original case colors blending through. The oil finished walnut forend with ebony tip rates very good with a one-inch grain crack along the upper right side. The custom Schuetzen style walnut buttstock with cheekrest has been nicely checkered by an amateur and is a non-factory replacement that rates about very good with a short crack behind the tang. The rear sight has been period replaced with a slot blank. This rifle is equipped with a globe style front sight, a mid-range tang peep sight, and a single set trigger.
