Fabulous Griffin & Howe Magazine Rifle on Kurz Mauser Action, Serial No. 3, Fred Adolph
stocked and Kornbrath engraved in .250-3000. Formerly part of the Emil McConnell collection.

serial #3, 250-3000 Savage, 22" barrel with an as-new bright bore. This lovely vintage sporter features work by two of the masters in their field at the time it was made; it features absolutely stunning engraving by the famous master Rudolph Kornbrath as well as being flawlessly stocked by master stockmaker Fred Adolph. The gun retains about 99% plus top quality rust blue finish. Built on a Mauser Kurz action, the top surface of the receiver ring and chamber area of the barrel are wonderfully finely matted, this is flanked by light, tight scroll and circular engraving, the bottom metal shows lovely flawless tight English-style scroll and geometric border filigree. The floorplate is hinged and features a lever release. The bolt knob features dual checkered teardrop panels. The action races are in-the-white, and have been finely engine turned, as has the follower, bolt body and extractor. The face of the trigger shows lovely checkering, the steel buttplate is also fully checkered and border engraved and features a three-hole compartment under the trap door. One of the compartments holds a nice small nickel plated oiler. The receiver wears its original Lyman 48 aperture sight, front is a lovely banded, hooded sporting ramp with fine engraving on the barrel surrounding the ramp. The gun was stocked in a nice grade of English walnut in the classic style by Fred Adolph, the stock is finished in a rich warm red-russet hue. The forend is Schnabel-tipped and features a beautiful borderless wraparound checkering pattern with light scroll and foliate carving at its rear edge. The pistol grip features dual checkered panels also with light scroll and foliate carving, the grip cap is contoured bone. The stock rates excellent, to as-new with only a very few minor handling marks. The gun is equipped with original European-style swivels which accommodate a 1" sling, the front swivel being attached to a barrel band which also features very nice fine scroll engraving. The top of the barrel is maker marked "No.3 Griffin and Howe Inc. New York". This fine rifle was formerly part of the Emil McConnell collection. Over all a classically styled rifle in stunning original condition, finished by men who were masters at their craft, and today, legends. (1951-3) {C&R} (12,000/18,000)
