serial #3913, 12ga., 26" matted barrel choked improved cylinder with a bright, near excellent bore showing only some minor pitting about halfway down the bore. The metal surfaces retain about 99% excellent quality hot immersion blue finish, which while not original, certainly rivals factory quality. Engraving patterns appear to be the work of George Ullrich, with very nice quality, tasteful scroll surrounding game vignettes; the left side an oval with mallards, the right side a circle surrounding two doves. The checkered walnut pistol grip buttstock rates excellent showing much original varnish and some really lovely grain. There is minor oil soaking at the junction with the action. The round forend shows lovely grain as well as a nice wraparound checkering pattern. Really a crisp, and very tight takedown Marlin, engraved by one of the famous masters of the time.
