Stevens-Pope Model 49 Walnut Hill Rifle on 44 1/2 Action

serial #9194, .25-25 Stevens, 28" part round part octagon barrel bearing Stevens-Pope #1382. The barrel has an excellent bore and is complete with its original false muzzle and brass piston bullet starter. Muzzleloading .25-25 rifles are very rare. The barrel has a couple extra holes under forend and is equipped with scope blocks and has one dovetail filled with blank just ahead of action for scope mount. The barrel is equipped with a windgauge front sight with spirit level in dovetail that is setback 2 1/4" from muzzle and originally intended for a scope mount. The action features nice floral scroll factory engraving. The barrel retains about 95% original blue finish. The action has been lightly cleaned and is now a silver gray color. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and forend are of highly figured walnut and rate excellent as refinished and with neatly freshened checkering. Rifle is equipped with double set adjustable triggers, full loop lever and Pope adjustable tang peep sight. Rifle is also equipped with a Lyman Super Targetspot 15 power telescopic sight on adjustable mounts. Rifle comes with a nice wooden shooters kit with plaque engraved "Ray Day - Wrightwood California" containing a Pope bullet mold, Pope lubricating pump, Pope re-de-capper, cartridge cases, cast bullets, a second modern .25 caliber mold, reloading dies and other small accessories.
