64 caliber, 42" part round part octagon barrel. The lock is marked "W. Ketland & Co.", the top of the barrel is marked "LONDON" and bears two British proofs. The fusil conforms to the late Brown Bess style with swell at tailpipe, "S" shaped flat sideplate, four ramrod ferrules with top two being trumpet shaped, medium length triggerguard with pineapple finial and short tang buttplate. The lock, triggerguard and buttplate tang all bear light simple engraving. The front sight doubles as a bayonet lug. The barrel and lock are a pleasing gray brown patina with some light surface corrosion that is confined mostly to the barrel in touchole area. The stock is of walnut and rates excellent with nice edges, a good deal of original finish and hardly any dings. The left side of the stock opposite lock is stamped with the initials "T.S.". The two sling keepers are missing. This is a handsome musket in nice condition likely dating to the first quarter of the nineteenth century. (1938-1) {ANTIQUE} (1200/1800) SOLD FOR $1035.00
