58 Caliber, 36" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is an 1840 contract rifle which has had a bolster type conversion to percussion utilizing a separate breech piece. This rifle has a darkly mottled but smooth brown patina along the barrel with pitting at the breech around the nipple and bolster and on the hammer. The lockplate has a slightly grayer patina with a partially visible "N. STARR (& SON)/(sunburst)/(U.S.)" ahead of the hammer, "MIDDTN/CONN/1841" behind. The stock has a nice, added military oil finish over light, scattered handling marks and blemishes and exhibits a moderate chip missing from around the patchbox latch as well as a straight line crack ahead of the rear sideplate screw. This is a very good, Leman converted Common Rifle overall and would make a nice addition to any collection. (1958-64) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)
