54 Caliber, 36" barrel with a very good, bright bore having some light frosting. This rifle has a Belgian cone conversion to percussion with the barrel having an overall mottled brown and gray patina with tool marks around the nipple. The lockplate is marked, "U.S./(D)ERINGER/(PHILA)DA" ahead of the hammer, "1843" over "1833" behind (1843 was probably the date of the conversion). The wood is in very good shape and has a nice, added military oil finish over scattered minor handling marks and blemishes and a faint but still visible cartouche opposite the lock. A stable, with-the-grain crack runs ahead of the rear sideplate screw for 3/4". This is a very good plus, Deringer made, Common Rifle overall. (1958-13) {ANTIQUE} (1000/2000)
