58 Caliber, 33" barrel with a good bore having some light pitting. This rifle has been up-calibered and has a partial bayonet lug on the right side of the unmarked barrel at the muzzle with a mottled gray-brown patina, light pitting at the breech around the bolster and nipple. The lockplate has a bright gray patina and is marked, "E. WHITNEY/U.S." ahead of the hammer, "N. HAVEN/1855" behind the hammer with some light brown freckling throughout. The stock has been lightly sanded at some point and has a nice added military oil finish over light bruises and a single chip on the right side of the barrel channel just behind the muzzlecap on the right side. The brass furniture has been lightly cleaned and is starting to repatinate a pleasant ocher color. A rack number, "G 7" is present on the buttplate tang. This is a very good plus Whitney made rifle overall. (1958-65) {ANTIQUE} (1200/1800) SOLD FOR $1840.00
