Charles Lancaster Underlever Double Hammer Rifle

serial #5904, 500/450 BPE, 28" barrels with excellent, bright bores featuring Lancaster’s oval bore rifling.. This is a wonderful rifle which was manufactured in 1887. The action, locks and lever all bear lovely 19th century British scroll engraving. The barrels retain 95% original blue finish and exhibit some traces of fading at the muzzles as well as a single, 2" long area of silvering on the right tube, 14 3/4" back from the muzzle. The barrels feature a single leaf rear sight and are marked "CHARLES LANCASTER 151 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON./NON-FOULING SMOOTH OVAL BORE RIFLING". The frame and back action lock plates retain 90% strong original case color. The checkered splinter forend and nicely figured pistol grip buttstock with rounded cheekpiece have a lustrous oil finish with just a few negligible handling marks along the belly of the butt. Length of pull is 14 1/4" to a checkered steel buttplate and drop measures 1 1/2" at comb, 2 1/4" at heel. A truly fabulous 19th century best quality London double rifle which after 120 years remains in beautiful, untouched original condition. (1951-2) {ANTIQUE} (12,000/16,000) SOLD FOR $13800.00
