serial #16745, 22 rf, 3 3/16" barrel with a fine, bright bore having some minor pitting within the grooves. The cylinder and barrel of this revolver have 95% plus of the original blue remaining on the metal with just some very mild fading near the muzzle and on the projecting edges. Additionally, there are some small spots of freckling present on the cylinder and barrel muzzle. The frame has virtually all of the original silver plate finish remaining which was cleaned long ago and now bears a pleasing mellow patina. A small varnished inventory number is present on the buttstrap ("519"). The checkered ivory grips are in fine shape with a mellow brownish yellow color and have shrunk slightly leaving the gripstraps slightly proud of the ivory. Grips are likely period, but likely not original to this gun as the grip alignment pins are slightly off compared with the drilled holes in the grip (leaving the grip protruding very slightly at the rear of the frame). Included with the revolver is a recent Smith & Wesson factory letter which lists a shipment date of November 20, 1860 to J.W. Storrs in New York City (at the time, S&W's sole agent). The revolver was one of forty in the shipment and is listed as having ivory grips. This is a fine little Smith which has survived the years exceptionally well. (1960-3) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)
