Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle

serial #87593, 32-40 Win., 30" No. 4 weight octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore except for some specks of pitting present. The barrel retains about 70% thinning original blue finish with a few specks of light rust and blending with a dark brown patina. The receiver on this 108 year old rifle retains 90% thinning original blue finish blending with the balance which shows a brownish gray patina. The breechblock and lever are a dark grayish brown mix with good traces of mellowed original case colors present. The pistol grip walnut buttstock and forend have been professionally checkered and custom modified. The belly of the buttstock has a replaced section of walnut giving the appearance of a club butt which now supports a nickel finished Schuetzen style iron buttplate. The upper tang channel of the buttstock is longer than the tang and has some wood filler added. The forend has a custom three position palm rest base attached to the belly. The barrel has a total of five dovetail slots which support the spirit level globe front sight, a rear sight slot blank, and two Malcolm style scope mounting bases. The barrel also has four threaded holes which have been filled. This rifle is equipped with a mid range Vernier peep sight and a single set trigger. (2009-1) (2000/2800)
