serial #23554, 45-70 Govt., 26" octagon barrel with a very good bore having a few spots of pitting. The metal surfaces on this 1888 manufactured rifle show a pleasing honest brownish gray patina with a few specks of older rust scattered about. The barrel has traces of original blue and the receiver has color case hardening in protected areas. The breech bolt retains nearly all of its original blue finish. The straight grip walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with a few dings and handling marks. This rifle is equipped with the correct carbine style rear sight. The loading gate mounting screw head is slightly misshapen and the upper tang screw is missing. A classic old Winchester in its most popular caliber.
