Lovely Cased John Blissett Double Percussion Fowler

serial #1450, 12 bore percussion, 29 1/4" barrels with bright excellent bores, showing a lovely damascus pattern their full length. The top rib is marked "John Blissett 321 High Holborn London Maker to H.R.H. The Duke Of Sussex" (Prince Augustus Frederick). The breech plugs are color casehardened and show very minor engraving with platinum blowout plugs, the tang shows lovely tight scroll engraving and is color casehardened. The lockplates show tight scroll engraving, game scenes and are maker marked "John Blissett London" they show nearly all their original color case. The hammers are engraved with a coiled dragon motif with scroll on the upper edges. The straight, long tang trigger guard has a pineapple design at its front section, the bow itself shows nice light engraving, with a dog scene, there is light scroll in the grip area, the blue has been professionally, nicely restored; the ramrod funnel also shows lovely tight scroll engraving with an urn and finial design. Locks are crisp and functional. The English walnut stock rates excellent showing much original varnish and crisp checkering. The buttplate shows a good deal of nicely restored blue, it's tang shows the same scroll and dog scene as the triggerguard. The gun comes cased in a nice English walnut dovetailed jointed case which shows an old refinish, the inside of the lid shows a London retailers label. In the case there is a selection of tow, wads and a leather one-pound shot pouch, with mostly tight seams and a casehardened charging spout. A leather covered GW Hawksley flask with screw off fireproof top is also included the seams are tight although the leather has shrunk slightly with age. It features a four position charging spout and an external spring. Both flasks rate about excellent. Implements include a wiper, worm, patch cutter, and a nipple spanner. The original rosewood ramrod is present with brass tip and screw off brass end which reveals a ball or wad puller.
