serial #11483, 303 British, 27 1/2" barrel with a very good bore showing crisp rifling but some minor frosting in the grooves near the throat.  This vintage British sporting rifle retains about 98% quality rust blue finish, the finish is somewhat later, but is very well done and is reacquiring a patina.  The action shows a few scattered sprays of excellent quality, tight scroll engraving as does the bottom metal.  The magazine cutoff is still in place, and a very nice tang safety has been fitted which completely blocks the sear.  The bolt features a dust cover.  The gun is equipped by the maker with sling eyes.  The rear sight is express style with one standing and three folding leaves, the third leaf being a long-range ladder style.  The front sight is the standard military style band with square block, the sight insert is a gold bead.  There are a few areas of very very minor pinprick pitting, one really must look for them.  Stock is a nice grade of English walnut, it is pistol grip style with the grip showing nice dual checkered panels.  The butt is smooth steel with trapdoor and it is lightly engraved.  The forend as well has a wraparound checkering pattern.  Wood rates very good plus to excellent with only minor dings and dents from the years of use.  There is a German silver oval monogram plate along the toeline it is engraved "TDP".  The breech area of the barrel directly ahead of the front receiver ring is stamped "Andrews".  The gun comes in an original canvas and leather bound carry case with a replaced maker's label and numerous accessories.  The interior shows numerous older repairs, and a couple of blocks or compartments which were relined.  Some accessories include nickel plated chamber funnel (caliber .308, not .303) a small leather purse with thong and plummet and rod end accessories, a nylon web sling with Shepherd's crook swivels, a three-piece cleaning rod with accessories, a bottle of Rangoon oil, another small leather purse, and an old canvas bandolier marked "GHL& Co. Ltd. 5-18".  There is also a reprint of an old CW Andrews limited catalog. Includes one ten-round magazine.  Really a rather nice vintage sporting magazine rifle from the time after "The Great War".  (2045-12) {C&R}  (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2760.00
