577 Caliber, 39" barrel with a very good, bright bore having some mild frosting within the grooves. This is an "1857/TOWER" marked gun which is extensively proofed and Broad Arrow marked on the breech. The barrel retains 85-90% of the original blued finish with the balance having turned a mild plum color and some moderate pitting around the nipple bolster. The stock is in fine shape with few handling marks visible in the excellent military oil finish. The right side of the buttstock is marked, "WD/(double arrows)" and, "2 New", while the left side has what looks like an agent's stamp behind the screw bolsters, "J.P. HODGSON".
