58 Caliber, 40" barrel with a very good, bright bore having some light frosting.  This musket has a dark gray-brown patina along the barrel with some mild pitting at the breech around the bolster and nipple.  The rear barrel band appears to be a replacement.  The lock and hammer have a mostly smooth plum colored patina with crisp eagle, "U.A.CO./NEW YORK", and "1863" markings.  The stock has a dark oil finish over many small bruises and handling marks including some small chips along the ramrod channel, and the buttplate has moderate pitting overall.  Cartouches can still be seen opposite the lock.  Union Arms received a contract to manufacture 65,000 Model 1861 Muskets for the U.S. government but in fact were only able to make about 300.  This is a very rare contract musket and rates very good condition overall.  (1958-77) {ANTIQUE}                  (1500/2500) SOLD FOR $2185.00
