58 Caliber, 40" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is one of the post-1859 made muskets which is outfitted with both the iron forend tip and patchbox, and has an overall dull gray patina on the metal and evenly spread, light freckling. The lock and hammer have been lightly cleaned and are slightly brighter than the remainder of the metal, and is marked, "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the hammer, with an American eagle on the primer door, and dated "1860" behind the hammer (a matching date is present on the breech of the barrel). The stock has a thick, added oil finish over numerous small handling marks and bruises although the cartouches are still fairly crisp. A single, hairline crack runs forward from the rear lock screw. This is a very good plus 1855 Musket which has the rare original patchbox. (1958-75) {ANTIQUE} (1500/2500)
