US Model 1817 Percussion Rifle by Deringer

Click on images for enlarged versions.

58 Caliber, 36" barrel with a very good bore having some minor frosting within the grooves.  This is one of a small number of rifles made in original percussion by Deringer, probably to fill a state contract.  The barrel has a dark plum color overall with some gray spots near the muzzle and minor, pinprick pitting on the bands.  The breech is correctly marked with a single "P" on the left side.  The lockplate is mildly pitted and marked, "U.S./DERINGER/PHILADELA" ahead of the hammer.  The stock has a dark military oil finish added over numerous small handling bruises as well as some drying cracks around the rear of the sideplate.  This is a rare percussion version of the Common Rifle, made by Deringer and in good-very good overall condition.  (1958-66) {ANTIQUE}  (1500/2500) SOLD FOR $1150.00
