58 Caliber, 33" barrel with a good bore having pitting within the grooves.  This is an up-calibered rifle which has a bayonet stud on the right side of the barrel, a ladder style rear sight, and "N.J." stamp on the left side barrel flat.  The barrel itself has an overall dark patina with some mild pitting around the nipple and bolster.  The lock is marked with the American eagle ahead of the hammer and has "HARPERS/FERRY/1853" behind.  The stock has numerous marks and blemishes, heaviest along the forend, under a thick, added military oil finish.  The brass furniture has developed a dull ocher patina with a rack number on the buttplate tang, "K. 45".  A crisp "JLB" stamp is present in the patchbox.  This is a very good plus, state marked, Mississippi Rifle overall.  (1958-55) {ANTIQUE}  (2000/3000) SOLD FOR $2012.50
