.58 caliber percussion, 39 1/4" barrel with an excellent bore. The barrel on this example is an overall deep plum-gray showing minor pinprick pitting overall. The lockplate and hammer are a dull pewter patina also showing very minor pitting. Lockplate is marked "EP Bond/London" with the latter half of "London" being rather light. The English walnut stock rates very good, showing an old cleaning, with minor dings and dents from use. Buttplate and trigger guard are a yellow mustard patina. The trigger guard features a "NSSA" ID tag, likely this original musket was being used by some reenactor. While no other markings can be seen on the stock, it is highly likely that this was a blockade run gun as it shows honest use, the stock markings likely having been removed many years ago when the stock was cleaned. There is a brass flash protector at the nipple. Gun includes a modern lead nipple protector and modern cloth sling. The lock is crisp and functions well. Includes an original iron ramrod with jag style tip. Front sight blade is brass and may be a replacement. This is a very good example overall of these prolific muskets used by both sides during the Civil War. (2030-4) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2070.00
