serial #248515(B), 38-40 W.C.F., 24" octagon barrel with a very good bore having a few spots of light pitting. The barrel retains about 80% thinning original blue finish with some scattered specks of rust and the balance bearing a brownish gray patina. The receiver on this 1888 manufactured rifle retains about 35% thinning original blue finish with a few specks of similar oxidation and the balance showing a pleasing brown patina. The hammer and lever are mostly a dark gray color with traces of original case colors remaining. The brass cartridge lifter has a pleasing light tarnish. The straight grip walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with an added coat of varnish. The buttstock has a 1" grain crack behind the tang and the forend has a lengthy horizontal crack along the upper left side. Peep sight mounting screws are in place on the upper tang. A couple of the screws have slightly misshapen heads. (1996-49) {ANTIQUE} (2500/3500) SOLD FOR $3162.50
