serial #53151, 45-70 Govt., 26" octagon barrel with a very good bore. This 1891 manufactured rifle is in its original factory configuration other than being reconditioned. The forend cap, receiver, hammer, lever, and crescent buttplate retain all of their re-color case hardening which is of the quality turned out by Doug Turnbull's shop. The barrel, full length magazine tube, and breechblock have been hot immersion blue finished and is not comparable with Doug's work. These metal surfaces retain 99% of a thinning bluish brown color. The edges of the octagon barrel are not as sharp as they should be and a flat blunt impact mark is seen on the left flat behind the rear sight. The checkered pistol grip fancy walnut buttstock rates very good to near excellent showing some drying and needing a little freshening to the checkering. The checkered fancy walnut forend rates near excellent except for a narrow 2 1/2" horizontal section missing from the upper left side behind the forend cap. This rifle is equipped with a sporting leaf rear sight and a Lyman No. 1 tang peep sight. The sights have not been reconditioned and therefore contain a little light pitting. The serial number has been re scratched onto the lower tang. (2011-34) {ANTIQUE} [Dom Morin Collection] (6000/8000)
