serial #148446, 45-70 Govt., 22" nickel steel round barrel with an excellent bore except for a light blemish about 3" from the muzzle. The bottom of the barrel 3" from the muzzle has a 1" rectangular section that appears to have been welded and touched over with cold blue finish. The barrel retains 96% evenly thinning non-original blue finish that has a dark gray look to it. The takedown collar, hammer, trigger, and lever retain 98% non-original blue finish with a few faint specks of pitting. The receiver on this 1910 manufactured rifle retains about 30% thinning original blue finish with the balance having flaked and showing a grayish brown patina. The capped and checkered pistol grip fancy walnut buttstock and forend rate very good to near excellent with a couple light dings. Two small 3/16" holes halfway up the toe line of the buttstock have been nicely filled. This rifle is equipped with a Lyman No. 4 ivory hunting front sight on a slightly modified boss, a flat top sporting rear sight, and a checkered hard rubber buttplate. It is our opinion that the wood has been married to this rifle. There are no factory records on Model 1886s in this serial range. An affordable deluxe lightweight takedown rifle.
