serial #5047, 38-55 Win, 26" octagon barrel with a very good bore showing strong rifling but minor scattered pitting as well. The metal surfaces on this special order rifle retain about a 75%-80% original blue, the areas of loss show fading to a deep blue gray and toning to pewter, most of the blue is retained on the frame flats, nosecap and bolt. The lever has toned to mostly gray however its left side exhibits some nice case colors. In addition to being a takedown the gun is equipped with special sights and sling eyes; the rear sight is Lyman No. 6 folding leaf sight, the front is a Lyman 5B folding combination Beach style. The distinguishing feature on these early first models is the cartridge guide screws being affixed conventionally with exposed screwheads, all other cartridge guide screws in later models are affixed from the inside out. The wood remains in lovely condition retaining much original varnish, and rates excellent with only minor dings and dents from use, the forearm showing perhaps a little more wear than the butt. There is very minor, sparsely scattered, surface oxidation present. The gun wears what appears to be an original Lyman No. 1A tang sight. This is really a nice-looking first model 1894 rifle with desirable special order features. (2096-1) {ANTIQUE} (6000/8000) SOLD FOR $11500.00
